Enjoy the beach; walk to the top of Mount Maunganui, sit in a café at the Mount, go shopping or watch the ships enter and leave the Port of Tauranga from Pilot Bay.
Rocktopia; indoor climbing complex. 30 minutes drive.
Classic Flyers; vintage aircraft that still takes to the skies and other aviation memorabilia. 30 minutes drive.
Take a day out and visit the neighbouring towns of Katikati and Waihi, with a number of interesting attractions or simply chillax at Waihi Beach.
Waihi Beach; for a bit of ocean action. Waihi Beach is 40 minutes north of Omokoroa.
Karangahake Gorge; on SH2 between Waihi and Paeroa, combines gold mining history and natural beauty, much of it accessible through a variety of walks. 45 minutes drive.
Waihi; a town full of gold mining history with the added bonus of seeing current mining in action right in the heart of the town. 35 minutes drive.
Katikati village for the murals and browsing the shops. 20 minutes drive.
Head south through Te Puke for the following attractions:
Spring Loaded Fun Park, for jet boat rides, helicopter flights or drive a 4WD through their purpose built track. 60 minutes drive
Comvita Visitor Centre; Educational gallery, auditorium and retail outlet. Tours available Monday to Saturday. 50 minutes drive.
Marshall’s Animal Farm; a great spot to take the family with a variety of animals to look at and feed. Check opening times before visiting. 40 minutes drive.
McLaren Falls; a series of small waterfalls, with rock pools and river for swimming in. 40 minutes drive.
